In 2022, the City of Marysville annexed over 250 acres for a residential development on State Route 245. Many people in Marysville did not want this annexation to happen. Local residents volunteered to collect signatures for a referendum. The citizens of Marysville rejected the annexation by about a two-thirds majority when this issue reached the ballot in November, 2023, thereby overturning the City Council’s vote.
Local volunteers gathered signatures to place a Charter Amendment on the 2025 ballot that would give the Marysville School Board more power to control the use of TIFs by the City of Marysville. This Charter Amendment passed by almost 70%.
These local volunteers are driven by a shared desire to support a well-planned, vibrant community where they maintain a voice in local politics. These volunteers have spent hundreds of hours of their own time to work towards these goals. These volunteers want to give the citizens a louder voice in the direction of Marysville’s future by allowing them to vote on issues that are critical to the long-term health of the community.
